4 Projects - Redefining the Urban Work Landscape

The way that I prepared for this Presentation is typical. I first selected my specific subjects based of Fred Stitt’s request that I talk about some ongoing works in progress. I then asked myself what was the significance of these four projects? What did they add up to? What makes them more than just four pieces of work that accomplish their individual assignments well? Where was this work leading me?

During this time I read a great deal deliberately choosing books outside of my normal habit. I found myself drawn to works about the city: Jacobs, Mumford, Rudofsky Rybcznski, Larson and after the talk, in concert with finishing the notes, Brown, Tung and Toker. These books are listed in the Bibliography, below. From this reflection the theme of the urban work landscape emerged. I started the web page in July and worked on it until the October presentation and, of course afterward. I prepared the Mind Map just before the talk and filled it out the next day. The process of finishing the web page and related notes will go on for several weeks completing the cycle. Education means “to lead out” and my goal is that will be true for all of us who participated in the exercise.
