The Red Threads

In 1997, Alisa Bramlett [link:] brought the concept of RED THREADS to us. Her teacher in, film making school, talked about the red thread that tied the entire piece into a whole. This concept impressed Alisa and she introduced it at the time we were adapting Patch Theory [link:] to our process and advancing our ability to operate ValueWebs [link:]. Red Threads became first a metaphor for the process of tying all the diverse elements of a DesignShop® Experience together and, ultimately, both a Module and a Framework of the Taylor Method. As a process, the Red Thread process is much like Weak Signal Research [link:]. It has slowly developed and been applied, here and there, over the last decade. The Red Thread had its formal introduction and first important application in the 2005 Davos WorkPlace [link:]. It will be at the center of the Davos experience in 2006. For this reason, I am using a graphic from the September 04 “Reinventing Davos” Workshop, facilitated by Architects of Group Genius [link:], as the Masthead of my 2005 Papers Read Thread piece. This graphic was created by Andrea Guida as part of the documentation of that event. This is a fitting Masthead considering the impact that the relationship with the Forum has had on MG Taylor’s work focus over the last year.
